Ilona De Santis, CNM, joined Midwives of New Jersey in May 2023. After working as a labor and delivery nurse at Morristown Medical Center for 11 years, Ilona received her Master’s degree in Nursing and Midwifery from Rutgers University in 2014.
Ilona first felt the call to midwifery at the birth of her first-born. It was then that she experienced the energy of birth as a metaphysical, spiritual, and self-concept shifting event. Since becoming a Midwife, Ilona considers it a great privilege to serve her clients and their partners in navigating through their transformative childbearing journeys.
Ilona believes that fostering the Mind-Body-Spirit connection when working with clients is of key importance, and the optimal path to wellness and vitality. Witnessing and empowering her clients within an intuitive and healing context, is an integral aspect of llona’s practice. Indeed, she believes that each visit is an opportunity to effect far-reaching change, evolution and positive shifts in self-concept and health.
Finally, Ilona honors and appreciates diversity, and believes in the importance of providing individualized care to each of her clients. During the Pandemic years, Ilona stepped away from midwifery practice to serve her community as a high school nurse, in order to spend more time with her own teen-aged daughters.
As the restrictions were lifted, she felt the renewed call back to midwifery. It was then that she literally bumped into Midwives of New Jersey founder, Lisa Lederer, at a celebration banquet. Ilona believes that, “What you seek is seeking you”(Rumi), and is so joyful to join Midwives of New Jersey.
Ilona counts her four children, Runi, Julia, Jessamy and Lilah as her greatest blessings. She cherishes her pet family, family, friends and community. She is an avid student of World Religions, culture and Mysticism, and is grateful for Art, her yoga practice, literature and the Wondrous Multitudes of Nature. She is her happiest self on a porch during a thunderstorm, or swimming in the Mediterranean Sea.
