The new Our Birthing Center on the Hudson was created to serve families in northeast New Jersey and New York City, offering a safe, welcoming space for out-of-hospital births.
The Midwives of New Jersey are committed to providing comprehensive, personalized care to birthing families in New Jersey and New York. To further this mission, we partnered with the owners of Our Birthing Center (OBC) to establish this stunning new birth center. We considered everything we learned from our experiences at OBC in Morristown to design a space to better meet the needs of expectant families.
One of the most significant improvements is that the Midwives’ office is now housed within the birth center. This means that families will come to the birth center for their prenatal care and educational classes, making it a familiar and comfortable space long before labor begins. We know this is important because mammals labor and give birth more effectively in familiar environments.
Thoughtfully Designed Birth Suites
Each birth suite has been carefully crafted to promote relaxation, comfort, and a sense of security. Some of the key features include:
- Expansive floor-to-ceiling windows offer breathtaking views and natural light, with direct access to a private balcony for fresh air.
- Spacious showers with luxurious rainfall showerheads, provide soothing relief during labor.
- A comfortable family lounge where loved ones can relax and support the birthing parent.
- A fully equipped kitchen where nourishing meals can be prepared for postpartum recovery. The birth center also stocks a selection of snacks and drinks, readily available to families.
- Enhanced lighting throughout the center creates a calming environment that supports the natural progression of labor.
Maintaining the Essentials
While we’ve made several improvements, we’ve also retained the essential features that have made Our Birthing Center such a trusted space for out-of-hospital births:
- Spacious birthing tubs offer the benefits of water immersion for pain relief and relaxation.
- Pain management options, including nitrous oxide and intravenous medications, for those who desire additional support.
- Queen-sized beds allow laboring individuals the freedom to move into different positions comfortably and provide space for partners to rest and bond with the newborn after birth.
A Safe and Supportive Environment
Our Hudson Birth Center located within in the Galaxy Mall, offers a safe and convenient setting for families. The mall itself provides:
- Secure indoor spaces and stairs where clients can walk and move to encourage labor progression.
- A beautiful rooftop garden provides a peaceful outdoor place to help labor progress
