Constipation

FacebookTweetPinLinkedIn

Constipation is a very common ailment that affects more than half of all pregnant women. Constipation during pregnancy is believed to be caused by the expansion of the uterus on the intestines and by hormones that relax the intestinal muscle, resulting in a slower removal of waste from your system. Additionally, iron supplements may cause constipation so be sure to drink plenty of water if you are taking an iron supplement.

Things to Try:

  • Increase Fiber such as fruits, fiber and whole grains
  • Increase water consumption
  • Prune juice, prunes, dates or raisins
  • Increase exercise
  • If necessary, try Citrucel, Metamucil, FiberCon
