“Birth centers allow midwives to practice without the interference of
unnecessary hospital procedures.  The physician who comments in this
article is very wrong to say that low risk women do equally well in the
care of the medical models generally represented in most hospitals. I have
heard countless new clients tell their story of how a perfectly normal
pregnancy turned into a high-tech nightmare once hospitalized.  Change is
needed.  Midwifery needs to GROW and it needs to be RECOGNIZED for its
