Headaches

Headaches are one of the most common complaints during pregnancy, headaches can occur at any time but most often strike in the 1st and 3rd trimesters. A surge in hormones and an increase in blood volume during the 1st trimester can contribute to pregnancy headaches. Headaches during the 3rd trimester are often a result of poor posture and tension that results from carrying additional weight. Other factors that can contribute to headaches include lack of sleep, low blood sugar, dehydration, and stress.

Things to try:

  • Stay well-hydrated
  • 1 serving of caffeine like coffee, tea or coke
  • Take a nap or a bath
  • Have a protein snack like nuts or cheese
  • Consider consulting with a chiropractor for posture related issues

If none of the remedies above work you may try taking extra strength Tylenol, 2 tablets, every 4 hours as necessary. Avoid taking aspirin or ibuprofen during pregnancy!
