Ileana Cooper, CNM is a Certified Nurse-Midwife. Her nursing career began in 2007. Though she always aspired to start her nursing journey working in labor and delivery, Ileana was told she lacked the experience because she was a new nurse. Instead, she began her career in the Emergency Department of a Level I trauma center, where she developed strong clinical skills and a deep sense of resilience.
During her time in the ER, Ileana became certified by the New York State Department of Health as a Sexual Assault Forensic Nurse Examiner (SAFE), providing sensitive and skilled care to survivors of sexual violence. She was honored with the Lydia Martinez Multidisciplinary Collaboration Award by the New York State Alliance Against Sexual Assault, recognizing her compassionate service. Ileana was recognized by Councilwoman Debi Rose and received the Women in History Proclamation from the Council of the City of New York.
Ileana earned her Master of Science in Nurse Midwifery from Stony Brook University, State University of New York in 2024. Ileana’s journey into Midwifery was inspired by the exceptional care she received from a group of Midwives during her prenatal care and the birth of her son. Her experience deeply impacted her and ignited her desire to offer that same level of care to other women. An encounter that left a lasting impact and fueled her commitment to provide empowering, compassionate, and individualized care to women across all stages of life.
Beyond her professional life, Ileana is a devoted wife, proud mother of three adult children, and loving grandmother to a beautiful granddaughter. She cherishes quality time with her family, especially cruising and traveling together. She also dedicates her time to serving at her church, where she volunteers at community events and mentors fellow church members.
Ileana is thrilled to begin her Midwifery career with the Midwives of New Jersey. She looks forward to walking alongside women through some of the most meaningful moments of their lives. Offering every women skilled hands, a listening heart, compassion and unwavering support every step of the way.
