Spring is here and it’s time to get outside, take off your socks and shoes and get grounded. Say what? The Earth is an infinite source of free electrons, a natural healing energy that helps keep the body in balance. We are meant to be connected to it, however our modern lifestyles, concrete jungles and rubber-soled shoes have disconnected us from the earth and it’s energy. Everyday we’re exposed to toxins and stress. Toxins from EMF’s, polluted air and water, chemicals in our food, the list goes on. Stress can be emotional or physical and come from a number of sources including – work, school, friends, or family. Exposure to these stresses and toxins leads to a buildup of free radicals in our bodies. These free radicals attack healthy cells and cause inflammation, which is the root of almost all medical ailments. Mother Earth is a giant magnet with an endless supply of electrons. If we stay connected by having direct skin contact with the Earth’s surface, these electrons are absorbed to neutralize and release the harmful free radicals in our bodies. As reported in the Journal of Environmental and Public Health:
It is an established fact that the Earth’s surface possesses a limitless and continuously renewed supply of free or mobile electrons. Mounting evidence suggests that the Earth’s negative potential can create a stable internal bioelectrical environment for the normal functioning of all body systems. Moreover, oscillations of the intensity of the Earth’s potential may be important for setting the biological clocks regulating diurnal body rhythms, such as cortisol secretion.
There is growing research showing that this connection to the Earth’s surface plays a vital role in preventing disease and as well as offering a host of benefits including:
- Reducing inflammation
- Reducing chronic pain
- Improving Sleep
- Increasing Energy
- Lowering stress and promoting calmness by reducing stress hormones.
- Normalizing biological rhythms including circadian rhythm
- Improving blood pressure and blood flow
- Relieving muscle tension and headache
- Lessens menstrual and female hormone symptoms
- Speeds healing
- Aids in recovery from jet lag
- Protects the body from EMFs
- Reduces recovery time from injury
- Reduces or eliminates snoring
- Helps support adrenal health
The effects of Grounding appear to be so profound that researchers suggest health practitioners prescribe outdoor “Earthing or Grounding sessions”. Nature’s Prescription: Walk barefoot on grass, soil or sand for 30 – 80 minutes per day. Optional: add singing, dancing and holding hands.
